Party Hats

Ask me anything   Submit   My senior thesis project is making party hats out of paper. This blog will report the progress and inspiration involved.
I would love your input and ideas.

Brainstorm…

Upon coming across some really amazing hat designers (Louis Mariette, and Phillip Treacy among others) my ideas have taken flight and dont know where to land. I am in an exciting yet extremely frustrating part of my creative process right now. So… Here are my current thoughts:

My Thesis “brief” rather is as follows:

“The senior thesis experience is a capstone element of your undergraduate study and a high point in the exhibition of your graphic design artwork. It demonstrates your ability to make intelligent and informed choices, brings together personal interests and ideas, and conveys your abilities as a designer and/or illustrator. It shows your ability to think creatively and problem solve effectively based on sound theories and professional practice. Each student will produce a conclusive piece or body of work that demonstrates an understanding of the stated criteria and is supported by skills and relevant visual and written research…”

With that being said I have come across a couple questions.

  1. Is it important that I create a business that could one day be attainable? For example: having 3 hat forms that can be customized to keep inventory under control.
  2. If I decide to design more “couture” looking hats, is it important to have events to plan the hat around? Would this make them more sellable and realistic?
  3. How important is paper in the process? I am realizing that some of the designs I have envisioned are not possible with only paper. Plus while the idea is nice a hat made of solely paper is not durable.
  4. Who am I making the hats for? Do I care, or should I take advantage of the opportunity to make something beautiful with no client? This question goes a long with the first question… is it important to have a business plan i.e. target audience?

Some important questions I need to figure out before taking the next step…

But on that note check out how classic Audrey Hepburn is:
